White Jewel Dracaena (Dracaena deremensis 'White Jewel')

Dracaena deremensis 'White Jewel'

Plant Features

There are about 120 species of trees and succulent shrubs which belong to the genus. The larger species are commonly known as Dragon Trees and the remaining species are known collectively as shrubby dracaenas. They are smaller and shrub-like, with slender stems and flexible strap-shaped leaves. Dracaena plants are suitable for use as houseplants. 'White Jewel' is a remarkable variety with dark green leaves streaked with white, giving a rich contrast with pronounced stripes.

Growing Instructions

Light

Dracaena White Jewel will thrive in partial shade, but likes 2-3 hours of bright indirect sunlight per day. Keep away from direct sunlight as this will scorch the leaves.

Watering

Water when the soil starts to dry-out at the top. Water well and allow to drain thoroughly. Dracaena are relatively drought tolerant. Do not overwater as this will cause the leaf tips to blacken.

Temperature

Dracaena fragrans White Jewel prefers average household temperatures between 16-24°C but can cope with as low as 12°C for short periods.

Humidity

Dracaena are hardy and will do well in normal room humidity, however they do prefer higher humidity and will benefit from occasional misting.

Feed

Apply a weak dose of a fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
