Ctenanthe 'Silver Star' is a warm climate, evergreen, rhizomatous perennial with branching bamboo-like stems and oblong, pale green leaves that are veined with dark green and with a dark green edging.
The leaves are a burgundy colour on the undersides.
These are very attractive foliage plants that are most commonly grown as a pot plant indoors but can be grown as a ground cover in warmer or tropical climates.
Small white flowers with overlapping bracts appear now and again but they are inconsequential.
Ctenanthe Silver Star Growing Instructions
Soil: Moist, well drained soils of any type with plenty of added humus.
A good mulch cover will help it retain the moisture it needs.
Chose a location that is sheltered and enjoys bright but indirect light.
Maintenance: A weakened liquid feed in summer and keep up the water supply in warmer periods.
It can be cut back to ground level and will regrow. Divide if too congested.
Little maintenance required except perhaps to remove dead foliage and keep moist in warmer weather.
