Bromeliad Aechmea Blue Tango, Bromeliad spp.

Plant Features

This is one of the best bromeliads for local gardens, a hybrid developed here in South Florida from species that are native to South America and the Caribbean. 'Blue Tango' is notable for its electric blue flowers and contrasting hot pink flower stalks. In nature, most bromeliads are epiphytes, living in treetops. Adapted to such a harsh environment, bromeliads protect themselves from drying out by holding water in a central tank formed by the leaves. Here in South Florida, many bromeliads including 'Blue Tango' grow happily in the ground.

Growing Instructions

Indoors, most bromeliads grow best in medium or bright light. Some can take direct sun on their foliage, but others prefer the protection of a sheer curtain or translucent blinds if grown in a sunny window.

Water most bromeliads enough to keep them moist, but never wet or saturated. You'll find many bromeliads are drought tolerant and survive if you forget to water them from time to time.

Outdoors, bromeliad care depends on the type; some can handle full sun and others prefer shade.

Note: Bromeliads are not intended for human or animal consumption.
